Easy access to clean water is important for every homeowner. Many of us get our drinking water from our kitchen faucet because it is within plain sight and easy to reach. The kitchen is not just an area in our homes where we get our food, but we also get water and other drinks here as well. Install a Faucet Filtration System

The most common options are the 3-stage filtration system and the multi-stage filtration system with reverse osmosis (RO). Both options have their advantages and disadvantages.
Systems with RO filtration tend to use up more water when activated but provide a more thorough purification compared to filters without RO. Filtration systems without RO are generally more affordable, waste less water, and provide a fair level of filtration. Whichever filtration system you choose, you are giving an added measure of purification to ensure that your other tap or faucet has clean drinking water.
Use Refrigerator Dispensers
An ingenious way of getting clean, cold, and refreshing drinking water is to use refrigerator dispensers. Many modern refrigerator designs have built-in water filter systems that are usually found on the front of the ref doors. They come with specialized tubing that can be connected to your home’s water supply. The water then passes through the refrigerator’s filtration system before it is dispensed. With a touch of a button or a lever press, drinking water is released through the dispenser.
The filter system takes up freezer space and may limit the freezer storage capacity, but many families consider this as a minor drawback considering the convenience of getting cool, clean right out of the refrigerator door. Refrigerator dispensers are also great for easy access to cold, refreshing drinking water for guests without the need for them to look inside your refrigerator.
Use Water Coolers
Also known as water dispensers, these are also popular options for drinking water in the kitchen. Fresh and purified drinking water is dispensed through a tower dispensing system. The dispensing system can provide both hot and cold water, depending on the model. Various service companies provide water cooler services, and they may vary by location. Place Faucet-Mounted Filters
One of the easiest ways to purify water is to install a filtration direct on the tap or faucet. While tap water is treated and cleaned by your local water treatment plant before it reaches your home’s water supply line, its safety, quality, and taste can vary depending on many factors. A faucet-mounted filter provides a convenient and fast filtration as a measure of added purification for your tap water source. It is easy to install, but it can also slow the flow of water.
While homeowners don’t usually go for this option as a way of getting clean water, there are new faucet mount water filters that provide a decent measure of filtration that can make your tap water safe to drink. Of course, this can still largely depend on the state of local reservoirs and the factors affecting water treatment and delivery.
Use Chemical Purification Treatments
Some chemicals are used to kill bacteria, viruses, and other disease-carrying organisms in the water. While most local water treatment plants may have already applied chemical treatments to purify your water supply, it is a good measure to reapply some chemical treatments if you want to use your tap water for drinking.
Iodine, in its true form, is a red chemical that can kill bacteria and viruses at a cellular level. It can be bought as a liquid, tablet, tincture, or crystal from your local pharmacist store. If you are using a tincture, use two drops for every quart of water or increase it to ten drops if the water is cloudy. For iodine tablets, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Chlorine is not just an effective disinfectant and purification agent for swimming pools. It is also effective in neutralizing viruses and bacteria in drinking water if used in controlled amounts. If used in bleach form, use eight drops for every gallon of water and let it stand for an hour for the purification to take its course. If you are using chlorine tablets, drop one tablet into a large container of water, and let sit for an hour. Chlorine treatment is recommended for treating groundwater since it doesn’t get rid of heavy metals.
Use Light Treatment
Using ultraviolet (UV) light for purifying water is important for eliminating disease-causing organisms like protozoa, bacteria, and viruses. UV water treatment systems are found in multi-stage purification systems or used as stand-alone treatment systems for cleaning water with suspected pathogens. The system works by utilizing UV-C radiation (typically 250-255 nm wavelength) as internal light systems where the water supply will pass through. Organisms like bacteria, viruses, and protozoa are rendered neutral and harmless by UV rays, making your drinking water safe from water-borne diseases.
